A donation is worth its weight in gold, right? But instead of gratitude, the generous employee was fired!

“I decided to become a kidney donor to my boss, and she took my heart,” said the 47-year-old New Yorker, who’s a divorced mother of two.

The problems began when the donor was recovering from surgery and her boss tried to pressure her to return to work before she felt strong enough.

After her first three days back at work, she decided it was too painful and she needed to stay home.

She said her boss told her she couldn’t come and go as she pleased — other employees would think she was getting special treatment.

Management then eliminated her overtime pay — and transferred her to a location 50 miles away.

She talked to a lawyer. The lawyer wrote a letter to the company. She was fired.

Now, she wants her kidney back.

That’s not a realistic expectation. One reason is that her kidney actually went to another person who was a better match. But that moved her boss up the list, into position for the surgery.

To be fair, the boss is grateful for what she did, and the employer has been a solid supporter of the National Kidney Registry.

The company held a fundraiser late last year and hoped to raise $100,000 for the non-profit — enough to cover about 1,000 transplants.

The ex-employee’s lawyers said they plan to file a discrimination lawsuit against the business.
